Pet Things We Love

March 2021

Fiona cat, our little Siamese kitten, has been with us for almost a year now. She’s still a crazy wild kitten, and has a mean streak to her (!). Who would have known that a gentle hand gesture to pet could turn a cat feral. So we are all learning new behaviors to get along. While she is naughty at times, she is very much like a dog in many ways. She loves to go on car rides with us, she runs to the door when she hears the Ring doorbell (or even a doorbell on TV), and I have trained her to give me a high five and we are working on how to touch my finger when I say “touch.” Just like a dog. đŸ™‚ We’ve pulled together some of our favorite pet things.

Pet Carriers

Fiona has loved traveling with us in this pet carrier: Link. They come in multiple colors, and it’s pretty easy to get the cat in (as opposed to our square hard case carrier that we use for vet appointments).

Litter Box Ideas

The Litter Robot

We purchased this to avoid cleaning the box every day. If it weren’t for Fiona tripping it up and changing the timing cycles all the time, it would work perfectly. But it still saves the effort of daily scooping, which we were doing before. The base model is pricey, so here are some other options:

Purina Tidy Cats Breeze System

This is a pellet based system, which includes disposable pads that collect the wetness below the pellets. This model works well for a few people I know, and is a reasonable priced system. Scoop included! Check it out here: Link or here: Link.

Roll and Clean Litter Boxes

Roll and Clean litter boxes are similar to the robotic version in that they spin the litter away. These are 1/8 the price of the Litter Robot, so worth trying as an initial step toward simplifying litter life. You can find these here: Link or here: Link.

Pet Food Things

For pet food, this pet food dish has been a good way to avoid Fiona from spilling water and food. She does tend to push it around a bit on the tile it sits on, but so far hasn’t managed to spill anything, which happened with other food bowls: Link.

And for dispenser, this has been helpful for keeping her out of cat bags: Link.
