Bold Front Door Colors to Make Your Exterior Pop

September 2020

We repainted our house recently, and I was on the hunt for some inspiring, bold color choices for our front door. We live in a builder-boxed house neighborhood with an active HOA, so by “bold” I mean we wanted to avoid brick red, white or ivory. A friend had painted her front doors a plum shade of purple, kind of like this. While I love purple, I chickened out of going that route. We decided to go with a bold navy, in Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy. This color looks really vivid in our south-facing house face.

This is gorgeous in a kitchen too – I am in love with navy and deep blue kitchens, with white counters and brass or black fixtures.

Here’s our door in all the glory of Hale Navy:

Sherwin-Williams has some other great inspirations for the 5 Most Welcoming Front Doors. Of these, I’m loving Exclusive Plum. Maybe this will be our next shade:

Had we not picked Hale Navy, I also love a smoky charcoal (something a little different than glossy black). Benjamin Moore’s Tavern Charcoal is a nice neutral charcoal black shade that I could see on the face of my house.

Another exterior door color I’m loving is Sage Green. This is beautiful

I am also loving this for a kitchen redo:

The grey-green is not overwhelming and would look super sleek with either soapstone counters or a nice white quartz. I can tell by the backsplash that marble would be a super clean look. Maybe I can convince Ryan for this for our kitchen next…

If I didn’t live in a builder’s box house, and had something slightly more modern, having a mustard yellow door would be so fun.

Benjamin Moore’s Bold Yellow is just that …. soooo bold. This would look slick against a charcoal or dark wood house.

Which do you love?
