We are excited to be a part of the One Room Challenge 8 week event. This fun and challenging event allows us to join along with thousands of other designers and DIYers to update one room and share our weekly status with the One Room Challenge community. If you’ve met Ryan and I, we have a healthy level of competition. But this event isn’t really about competition – it’s about celebrating creativity, uplifting one another and inspiration!
For our One Room Challenge, we will be tackling our kitchen. This project has been in the planning phase for a while, and we think we can get it done over the next 8 weeks (assuming all materials show up!).

We aren’t done though. I always wanted a brighter kitchen, and for our 8 week plan, we are going to:
- Replace counters
- Replace backsplash
- Mud and Paint
- Install new sink and plumbing fixtures
- Install new cabinet hardware
- Paint our island
- Update our pendant lights (just a tiny bit by swapping out our coloring fixtures)
- Update our island stools
- Installing new undercabinet light in our butler pantry
- Installing a new beverage fridge in our butler pantry
We’ve slowly started tackling some projects. We’ve demo’d the counters, and are waiting for new counters. We stuck the beverage fridge in its place but it’s not fully installed, and we updated our pendant lights to be more modern a few months ago – but will do more to change to a fun brass accent. Here’s where we are at week 1 of the challenge.
It’s a mess and pretty unusable this week! Our counters should be installed this week so that’ll be great! And I’ve started swapping out our cabinet hardware to update the look. We have mudded our backsplash and are planning to paint the kitchen over the weekend and through next weekend.
