New Year, Newly Organized

Over my holiday vacation, we’ve tackled several projects – our daughter’s room refresh, building new furniture and frames, new entry door refresh, and repainting our bedroom. During this time, I also did some much needed organization to my random has-everything-but-no-clear-spot cabinet. This cabinet contains overflow art projects, kid crafts, first aid materials we need for quick fixes, bathroom hand towel overflow, packaging materials and other things. A total everything cabinet.

I needed to bring order to this space, so I began gathering storage containers to contain the mess. Here are some of our favorite storage organizers we’ve used here and in other nooks and crannies that you may love, too.

MDesign Containers with Hinged Lid

These are so good for LEGOs and toys. We have been gifted so many LEGOs for my son, and sorting them in these containers is an easy way for him to grab the wheels, or people, or colored blocks (each from their own tidy bin) to create whatever magical invention or vehicle his little heart desires.

MDesign Clear Bin

If you need options to contain kitchen, pantry or bathroom items, these are great. The length aren’t so long to overhang on my kitchen shelves. And they are small enough to fit in the refrigerator or in a junk cabinet.

Clear Storage Bins

We found these at Marshalls, and Amazon and other retailers have them as well. These were helpful to organize random kid items, bathroom hand towels and little things like tacks for my corkboard art wall.

Stackable Plastic with Bamboo Lid

I found some stackable plastic containers with bamboo lids like these for our laundry room. These are handy for our gloves and hats. I can stack them out of way so when the kids come in from playing there aren’t little clothing items all over the floor. The kids are good at getting things into the general space of where they belong, and I try not to tax them with the extra requirement of putting the items under the lids of the containers.

Any of the above options would work for a first aid storage solution. But I wanted something narrow and with more compartments to hold our velcro first aid kit, band-aids, cream and spray. I saw a desktop storage solution at Marshalls, like this one, and thought it’d work great. Sure enough, everything fits wonderfully. This is a great solution to see your items and be able to stuff them away without taking up much space.

Sustainable Bamboo Drawer Organizers

For most of my kitchen and bathroom drawers, we have these bamboo containers to store random sized things. These are sustainable from bamboo plant, which is a renewable and sustainable alternative to plastic. These can store anything from utensils, kitchen gadgets, random papers or pens, grooming supplies and medicines.

Paper Storage

Magazine storage containers are great for art craft paper. We use these for drawing paper, construction paper, handouts from school, math modules, calendars and all kinds of other school or craft related papers. I’ve got some under cabinets on their sides for smaller profiles.
